The Hand Clinic

One never fully appreciates the infinite functioning of the hand until it becomes disabled in some way. At the South County Orthopedic Specialists (SCOS) Hand Center we focus our efforts not only on treating the initial cause of a patient's hand problem but also on developing a prescription for rehabilitation that will restore the fullest function possible. The Hand Center is an adjunct of the SCOS orthopedic practice; it specifically provides specialty care and treatment of the hand and upper extremity. We have combined the medical expertise and specialization of Dr.'s Kyle W. Coker and Lonnie J. Moskow and added a physical therapy unit dedicated to rehabilitation, wound care, splinting, conditioning and strengthening of the hand and upper extremity. Hand care is our business.

Referrals for Hand Patients
At the Hand Center someone is always available to answer your questions or accept patient referrals. We are set up to evaluate and treat acute injuries such as Skil saw amputations, on the day of injury, or more chronic conditions in a timely manner. Our close, multidisciplinary approach to these difficult problems has led to improved outcomes in a variety of conditions. We welcome referrals from PCPs or orthopedists, from the simplest finger cysts to complex microvascular reconstructions. Some of the diagnoses that you may consider for referral are: nerve compression syndrome, rheumatoid or osteoarthritis, wrist pain or instability, workers' compensation upper extremity pain syndromes, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, tumors or any acute injury involving fractures, tendons or nerves, congenital hand conditions and hand and wrist dysfunction.

Other than rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, as a Treating physicians, nurse coordinators or adjusters for work related hand conditions, you know that injury and compromise of functioning of the hand are very common. As mentioned earlier, we can provide the medical treatment and care which best assures that your employees can be successfully returned to work as soon as practicable.

Hand Therapy
We understand the critical role appropriate physical therapy plays in restoration of function to the hand. Accordingly, we have established a hand therapy unit within the Hand Center. Our objective is to facilitate the rapid return of function, relief from pain, and maximize both surgical and non-surgical outcomes. Our hand therapy staff is an experienced and dedicated group of Certified Physical and Occupational Hand Therapists and licensed assistants.
