Dr. Coker hails from Dallas, Texas. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas, completed his medical school training at the University of Texas Medical Branch and came to the Saddleback community in 1983. He performed both his internship and residency at Los Angeles County, University of Southern California. He is fellowship trained from The Joseph Boyes Foundation for Research in Hand Surgery, Los Angeles, California. Dr. Coker is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for which he also has an additional certificate in hand surgery.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Southern California Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has served as Chief of Orthopedics at both Mission Regional Hospital and Saddleback Memorial Hospital and as team physician for Capistrano Valley H.S. Dr. Coker and his wife Diane Coker, PT,DPT,CHT, are active in academic and clinical training programs for hand therapists. Dr. Coker limits his practice principally to treatment of the hand and upper extremity. He resides in Laguna Niguel.
