Ryan Fan, MD Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Fan is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and Southern California native. Born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley, Dr. Fan attended the University of California, Berkeley and Meharry Medical College graduating with High Honors (Top 5-10%).

Following medical school, Dr. Fan completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in San Diego, at the Naval Medical Center. He proudly served over 15 years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his distinguished military career, he served as both an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Battalion Surgeon for the United States Marine Corps, including deployment with the 2nd Battalion 4th Marines as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005-2006. He played an active role in the training and care of the Marines and Sailors during his tenure with the 1st Marine Division. While at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, he also served as the Physician Assistant Supervisor and a Graduate Medical Education Coordinator, overseeing the clinical training and professional development programs.

After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 2014, Dr. Fan transitioned to civilian medicine joining the medical staff at Whittier Hospital Medical Center, UCI Placentia Linda, Anaheim Regional, Foothill Regional, and Orange Coast Memorial Hospital. He also served as a team physician for the Whittier College athletics and several local high school sports programs.

Dr. Fan’s clinical expertise encompasses general Orthopaedic Surgery with over 15 years of extensive experience in Sports Medicine, Advanced Arthroscopy, Joint Reconstruction, Hand and Trauma surgery. He has undergone specialized training in robotic-assisted techniques for joint replacement and reconstruction. Dr. Fan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Fan is an avid golfer, who enjoys fitness, soccer, and spending quality time with his family. He is also conversationally fluent in Spanish.
