Shoulder & Elbow

Shoulder and Elbow surgery is a unique field of orthopedics that encompasses patients of all ages with conditions ranging from simple overuse injuries to complex tears, fractures, dislocations and arthritis.

Shoulder and elbow upper extremity complaints are growing as the population continues its’ trend to be more active, participate in exercise classes and full body workouts as well as overhead throwing sports.

These joints are complex and involve highly defined bone and ligament structures with intricately balanced muscles. All of these must work together as a synchronized system to provide strength and maintenance of overhead activities.

Many of us become even more dependent on the upper extremity as we age. In order to maintain our independence, a strong and stable arm is required for activities from simple daily tasks to getting out of a chair and walking with a cane or a walker.

Seemly routine activities may become impossible when the shoulder or elbow become strained, broken or arthritic. Most common sprains and strained can be treated with simple measures, however, the more serious acute or chronic conditions may benefit from surgery.

Our shoulder and elbow specialists are well trained and experienced in all the recent advances in shoulder and elbow surgery. These include minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques, rapid rehabilitation protocols, 3-Dimensional assessments and planning, and smaller, more durable, long-lasting implants.

Our SCOS shoulder experts include our fellowship trained orthopedic shoulder specialist, Dr. Ari Youderian, who specializes in shoulder replacement, complex reconstructions, arthroscopic and open repairs and shoulder fracture repair.  Our sports medicine fellowship trained team including Dr. Scott Graham, Dr. Chris Veneziano and Dr. Nimish Kadakia specialize in arthroscopic repairs and reconstruction of the shoulder including rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations and labral tears. Our hand and upper extremity fellowship team includes Dr. Lonnie J. Moskow and Dr. Amar A. Patel, who care for the hand, wrist, and elbow.
